The President Should Match His Words With Actions and Sign Congress' Bipartisan EPA Overreach Bill

Statement

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of S.J. Res. 22, the Resolution of Disapproval of Waters of the United States Rule:

"Across the nation, communities and individuals face the frightening prospect of the federal government disrupting their daily lives in areas it has no right to get involved in--whether it's in my district where the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tried to label the aptly-named Sandy Creek as a "water of the U.S.' and subject it to the federal litany of regulations, or all the way up in Wyoming where Andy Johnson faces fines from the EPA of up to $37,500 per day for the high crime of creating a pond on his property for his kids to fish and his cattle and horses to drink. When it comes to the Waters of the U.S. rule, this EPA overreach threatens to be even more pervasive, disrupting economic development and infringing on private property rights.

"Last night, the President spoke about working together on bipartisan priorities. He can start by matching his words with actions right now. Republicans and Democrats joined together to block the Waters of the U.S. rule, passing it through both chambers with bipartisan votes. It will now go to the President's desk. The President should fulfill his own State of the Union hopes by joining with bipartisan majorities in the House and Senate to stop this latest example of federal overreach."
